  • Free Dress Weeks
To shake things up, every now and then we have free dress where students can wear their choice of attire for the whole week. Visit the Studio Calendar to see when free dress weeks are scheduled. For classes that require black leotard and pink tights, students can wear any color leotard and tights! Hair requirements should continue to follow the standard dress code. For Company classes that require black athletic wear, students can wear any color athletic wear.
  • Fall Dress Code
A dress code ensures that all dancers will have adequate mobility during class. Improper clothing can impact technique, precision, ability to grip the floor, and visibility. Click here to view the dress code for each class.
  • Absences
Students who will be missing class need to call the office at 812-477-6878 or email jansdance930@gmail.com. Our office staff will ensure that each instructor is notified of your dancers absence.
  • Attendance
Regular attendance at all classes is necessary in order to maintain progress. Attendance is a strong consideration when placing students in classes and performances. There are no refunds for missed classes including those due to illness. If a student misses more than 4 weeks in a row without notifying the office, they will be un-enrolled from the class. Since a spot was held for the student, they will be liable for tuition through the end of the month in which they were un-enrolled.

  • Social Media
The use of social media is commonplace and can be a positive way to promote Jan's School of Dance and your own dancer. The policies listed below are intended to serve as guidelines regarding how to use social media in a positive and encouraging manner: Avoid anything that could compromise the self esteem of students who attend Jan's. Avoid negative comments about Jan's, its instructors, other students, peers, parents, performances, and events.
  • Code of Conduct
The guidelines below will allow you to be a successful dance student and participant in the dance classroom. Arrive on time and be prepared to dance. Follow the dress code. If you arrive early, please stretch and warm up to prepare for class. Dancers need to be mindful about how they behave at the dance studio. Behave respectfully to the studio, the teacher, parents, and the other dancers. Dancers should be certain to use the bathroom before class and make an effort not to leave class to use the restroom. Respect other dancers. Be aware of your personal space and refrain from correcting others (unless instructed otherwise by your teacher). Keep your thoughts and words positive and uplifting towards others. Be attentive at all times, especially when waiting for your turn. It is considered proper etiquette to practice / mark the combinations while waiting your turn. It is not proper etiquette to do cartwheels, flips or other tumbling while waiting your turn. Be aware of negative body language (like folded arms) and never sit down unless you are asked to sit. If you are sitting out due to an injury, sit tall. Be alert to all corrections given to you and the other students in class. All dancers should consider corrections given to other dancers as one that could potentially apply to them as well. Maintain a positive attitude. Thank your teacher after class. It is a sign of respect, and teaches children that dancing is a privilege. Review the Social Media policies and abide by them.
  • Drop Policy
Written notice (email is preferred) of intent to drop a class must be received by the 10th day of the month. If a class is dropped after the 10th day of the month, tuition for that month will be due in full and is non-refundable.
  • Inclement Weather
Cancellations for weather are rare and done when necessary to ensure the safety of all students. Jan's follows EVSC closures for inclement weather. If the studio closes, we will let you know via Facebook and by SMS text as soon as possible. Please make sure your phone number is updated in the Parent Portal and that you are following us on Facebook so you don't miss out on important updates. There are no refunds for class cancellations due to inclement weather.
  • Student Placement
Dancers will be placed in a class of their level, proficiency, and ability, not by the number of years of dance training. Some class levels are more difficult for students than others and it is not uncommon for a student to remain at a given level for several years. We weigh many factors such as age, technical ability, experience, learning style, as well as emotional and physical maturity when determining the best possible fit for every dancer. We aim to group like students together for optimal learning and progress. If you have any questions concerning placement, please feel free to speak to your child’s teacher.
  • Waivers & Releases
RELEASE. By registering my child, I release Jan's School of Dance and their directors, owners, students, teachers, staff, employees, volunteers, associates (collectively referred to in this document as “JSD”) from any liability or claim that I or my representatives may have against JSD with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property loss or damage that may result from my participation at JSD. I choose for my child to participate in classes, performances, workshops, and other activities at JSD of my own free will and certify that my child is in proper physical condition to take part in such activities. If I have questions about whether an activity is suitable for my child to pursue, I will consult my child's health care provider in making that decision. If my child has any known physical vulnerabilities, conditions, or injuries, I agree to discuss them with the director before participating. I voluntarily release and forever discharge and hold harmless JSD from any and all claims or demands for damages, loss of services, costs and expenses, injuries, attorney fees, and any other call for reparation from any and all injury to me or my property arising in any way from my participation in dance classes, camps, intensives, workshops, performances, troupes, the use of JSD equipment or facilities, and any activities associated with JSD. RISKS. I understand that there are risks of physical injury associated with, arising out of, and inherent to dancing. These risks include the potential for slips and falls, sprains, strains, dislocations, soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, podiatric conditions, and other risks not specified here. Understanding these risks and the potential for others not listed, I agree to personally accept and assume all of the risks present in my child's participation at JSD. My child's participation at JSD is entirely voluntary, and I choose to participate in spite of the risks. Dance education sometimes requires hands-on instruction as well as verbal instruction. Instructors may correct dancers by touching their arms, legs, feet, hips, back and head to move them in the correct position. I acknowledge that this is a common standard in dance instruction and understand that it is my responsibility to communicate clearly with my teacher and/or the director if any form of touch is unacceptable to me. MEDICAL TREATMENT & INSURANCE. I understand that JSD does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial or other assistance in the event of injury or illness, including but not limited to medical, health, or disability insurance or support. I authorize JSD to obtain necessary medical or dental treatment, including first aid, ambulance transport, hospitalization, or such other care necessary for my health and welfare in an emergency. If my insurance does not cover emergency treatment that is deemed necessary and sought for me by JSD, I agree to be responsible for and pay all costs incurred on my behalf. I release and discharge JSD from any claim which may arise on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered in connection with my child's participation in JSD activities or with the decision by any representative or agent of JSD to consent to medical or dental treatment on my behalf in an emergency. I understand that JSD does not carry or maintain health, medical, dental, or disability insurance coverage for any participant. I agree to take responsibility for full payment of any emergency medical or dental costs related to my child's JSD participation regardless of whether I have insurance coverage. PHOTOGRAPHIC RELEASE. I understand that JSD may take photo and video recordings of me and my family while at the studio and participating in JSD classes, activities, and related events. I convey to JSD full rights and interest in these recordings. I understand such recordings may be used in advertising or other published materials, physical or virtual. MISCELLANEOUS. While my child is a participant at JSD, I agree that my child and I will abide by any rules, codes, and policies that are put in place by JSD before or at any time during participation. If I have questions or concerns regarding any policies or decisions made by any representative of JSD, I agree to bring them promptly and specifically to the director’s attention. If I file a lawsuit against JSD, I agree to do so solely in the state of Indiana and agree that the substantive law of Indiana shall apply in that action without regard to the conflict of law rules of that state. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining document shall remain in full force and effect.
  • Class Observation
All classes can be viewed from monitors in the waiting room areas. At times, instructors may invite you into the classroom for viewing. Unless otherwise invited, please sit in the waiting room while your dancer attends class. This will minimize distractions and ensure your dancer gets the most out of every class.
  • Planned Closures
Planned closures are times when the studio is scheduled to be closed (for example Christmas Break). There are no refunds for classes scheduled during planned closures. Jan's follows the EVSC calendar for planned closures. Planned closure dates can be found on our Studio Calendar.
  • Sickness
Students must be symptom free for 24 hours prior to attending classes. Please do not send students to class if they had any of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours: discharge from the eyes or nose (regardless of color), fever, chills, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, or shortness of breath. If a student arrives to class with these symptoms, or complaining of illness, parents will be notified to pick them up immediately.
